Pleasently surprised after Impromptu dinner at the Royal Hotel. Lovely staff and great honest food combined for a fantastic dining experience. A worthy find.

Had a work get together for Christmas x6 this is our second time for a meal we all live in Sunbury and to have the Royal as a place to enjoy a meal is fantastic we all commented on what we ordered tonight all were well presented on our plates and all the meals were hot and flavour some the staff Vicki,Serena,Jacinta&Steven were so helpful with setting up the pub+ for some of us and the service was excellent

I had the pleasure of dropping into the Royal on a mission for a much-needed pint of the coldest Carlton Draught I could get my hands on after a 15hr flight I (somehow, temporarily) do monthly from San Francisco to see my bloke while we work out his visa. I’d say getting my grubby little American hands on the vastly superior Aussie beers may just be tied for first place level of excitement, he certainly had competition, and understood that fully. Alas, I digress. After popping into the shops close by for some essentials, I recognized the need to satisfy my deepest desire to scour the neighborhood for a suitable pub to crash until he knocked off site up the road. Boy, did I get lucky, the Royal was exactly what I was looking for - down to earth, invitingly cozy, friendly, and didn’t immediately burn me at the stake for ordering a pint in my (very obvious) voice. I get it, it’s totally valid. The second an American enters a pub, everyone knows. Or anywhere, we deserve it, we’re annoying, you’re not wrong. But this wasn’t my first rodeo, colloquial pun intended. I attempted to enter quietly and unassumingly, dumped my shopping bags next to my chosen high top table. I originally intended to keep to myself and enjoy the pokies a bit to pass the time. That didn’t last long, as I stuck out like a sore thumb, but not in a bad way. I recognized a group behind me immediately that seemed to get on like a house on fire, close as blood even if they weren’t. One by one, friendly but inquisitive faces came up to chat, and it wasn’t long before I was fully (and happily) absorbed by such a welcoming group. From the bartenders, to the house manager, to the patrons that love the Royal as their home, I was welcomed with open arms, as they insisted I didn’t sit by myself. I can’t emphasize how nice everyone was here, especially as my original intent was to be the least disruptive presence in their spot. I rocked up around midday, and by 15:30 when my boyfriend finally came to fetch me

Delicious food, friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere.will definitely visit again! Loved it! Sticky date pudding is to die for all home made!

We were in Sunbury for the day and needed a quick lunch on this cold and windy day. Stepping inside, this was a true local pub and didn't pretend to be anything else. To our surprise, they had senior's parmas on the menu and both were nicely done. The beers were glorious. The staff were fantastic. It was a good meal.

Went here with a mate cause we heard the steak was pretty good. OMG I'll be back again, chose mash and veg and egg on top and it was probably the best ALH steak I've had. The drive was easy too. My mate said the calamari rings were spot on too. Love the old doors with the long windows looking out onto the street a nice pub !

Rocked in tonight to the Royal Hotel here in Sunbury for a feed, Unfortunately they were down a chef, however another staff member (Andrew) stepped up to the plate and cooked our meals for us to fill in for the chef. Andrew served up the best pub steak I've had in Sunbury! I'm a steak and chips kinda guy and Andrew certainly knows what he's doing, Also the seniors menu here is extensive, if you're the gray hair brigade, pack your seniors card and come on by. Another 30 years and I'll be joining you guys. The deserts are good, included photo of the sticky date pudding Andrew prepared for us. Front of house staff are also great, and we notice your efforts. Keep up the great work,

Popped in for a quick nibble this morning (16 Mar 2025). Ordered the onion rings with a coke. I must say, amazingly surprised the portion size for $4.00 was pretty generous. Was ample for two to share. Staff were friendly and fast to serve and clear our table. Will I visit again? Absolutely, I need to try the rest of the menu😁

If you're a local or a visitor to Sunbury and looking for a bite to eat or a place to catch up with friends, then I strongly suggest you try the Royal Hotel right in the heart of the township and a short walk from the station. The Royal has a friendly Sports Bar, and an extensive menu of mouth-watering dishes that includes all your pub favourites and they're very reasonably priced too - You've gotta love that! We booked a table to celebrate Mother's Day and Steve our Host was welcoming and professional and couldn't do enough for us, including a complimentary glass of champagne and gifts for Mum's on arrival, simply amazing. And our meals were cooked to perfection, fresh and full of flavour, juicy and delicious and generous in size and served quickly. Suggest you try their salt and pepper calamari for starters, their signature chicken parma with veggies/chips and salad or chicken schnitzel with chips and salad for an out of this World dining experience! Overall the hotel had a great 'warm, friendly and inviting vibe' and was very clean and seating comfortable for couples, families or groups and was worthy of a 5 star rating. Very Highly recommended 👏👍😊
